2. Be driven by logic and not emotions. Cool wheels with all the latest bits and pieces might cloud your better judgement. More often than not you pay more in the end than you need to if you buy with emotion. Stand back a bit and view the car stripped of all its glitziness and not the thing your emotions ran riot over.

3. Have a clear picture of exactly what you wish for before you put a foot inside the dealership door. A too absorbing mind may be swayed in either direction, and seldom for your good. Find all relevant information first to specify the details you seek within your budget, just be sure not to be taken in by fancy sales pitches.

4. Talk to the dealer about the price, not payments. Dealers who refer to the "easy" payments could be avoiding the issue of overall price, and you need to know why. Be prepared to do your "sums" and you will know exactly what price fits into a payment plan to fit your budget. But if your thoughts are only on a payment plan, more than you want to pay might be what you do pay.

5. Recognise the right moment to decide. That decision could be to walk away, alternatively, you may wish to see the deal to its conclusion. You should always be aware of how you feel nearly the deal before you. If it all feels right, by all means do it. However, should you feel an inkling of an item out of place, leave the deal.

There are easier thing in life than buying cars. It's not something most of us do very often and putting our cash to its peak performance is our aim.
